Why is it big news--or news at all-- that John McCain nearly left the Republican Party in 2001? *
Good heavens, McCain has never been a true and tried Republican, excepting his positions on the war on terror, in particular the Iraq theater.
On issue after issue after issue, John McCain has aligned himself with leftists like Ted Kennedy. From immigration to tax cuts to campaign finance reform, John McCain left the GOP years ago.
True, McCain has not formally changed his party affiliation, which is really a shame because had he switched in 2001, he would not be a leading candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008
Perhaps resurrection and promulgation of this report will help to remove the fog of denial that has blinded Republican voters in New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Florida, and serve as a wake up call to voters about to cast ballots on Super Tuesday.
Sound the alarms far and wide: Not only is John McCain not a conservative, the man is not even a Republican!
