San Francisco Mayor Says NO! to Democracy

John W. Lillpop

On November 7, San Francisco voters passed Proposition I, which asked the mayor to appear before the Board of Supervisors once a month at a Q-and-A session to discuss city policy. Passage of Proposition 1 sent a clear message that San Francisco voters want their mayor to work with the supervisors, rather than against them.

San Francisco’s current mayor, Gavin Newson, was opposed to the proposition and following passage has thumbed his nose at the non-binding measure. Ever the liberal elitist, Newsom has given every indication that he does not intend to submit to the intellectual and moral snake pit known as the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, notwithstanding the wishes of the voting public.

Newsom’s reticence at a live Q-and-A session should come as no great surprise. His fascistic tendencies were well documented in 2004 when he took it on himself to declare California laws and voters inconsequential on the issue of same sex nuptials.

During that demonstration of manic obsession with power, Newsom personally presided over several same sex weddings on the steps of city hall. Despite all of his theatrics and grandstanding, Newson ended up looking foolish as all of his “weddings” were subsequently ruled null and void.

While it is unclear if Newsom’s modus operandi makes him suitable for higher office, precedent was established by Governor Gray Davis who oozed arrogance when he declared that the role of those in the California state Assembly was merely to implement his ideas.

Further, the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. in Washington, D.C. seems quite adept at ignoring laws he does not agree with.

If being obsessed with rule by fiat is a qualifying factor, perhaps Gov. Newsom, and then President Newsom, are future horrors for California and America.
