As the American voting public begins to focus on things political in advance of the November elections, recent developments may actually be improving GOP prospects.
To begin with, the Punch and Judy show at the United Nations, starring Hugo Chavez and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, provides a stark reminder that this world is crawling with ruthless, crazed barbarians who would turn America and Israel into nuclear graveyards given the chance.
Chavez’s remarks were so extreme that even congressional liberals like Charles Rangel and Nancy Pelosi, from New York and California respectively, came rushing to the defense of President Bush. Getting Democrats such as Rangel and Pelosi to defend Bush against anything short of assassination would normally be impossible, but Chavez found a way!
Then there is the matter of Pope Benedict XVI and his ongoing war with Islamofascists. Recent developments have the pontiff extending an invitation to meet with Muslim leaders to facilitate communications and understanding.
But the pontiff’s apologies and invitation have caused at least one prominent Muslim to call the pope’s actions "mere diplomatic acts" that prove the pontiff does not really regret his words.
Sheik Abu Saqer, leader of Gaza's Jihadia Salafiya Islamic outreach movement, called for holy war against the pope and said the green flag of Allah will fly over the Vatican. Go here http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=52102
Outrageous remarks by Chavez, Ahmadinejad, and the newly minted Jihad on the Vatican should convince reasonable voters to think twice about electing Democrats to serve in top leadership positions in the halls of Congress.
Voters who do think twice are likely to conclude that the world is far too dangerous to leave in the hands of liberals like Howard Dean, Harry Reid, John Kerry, Nancy Pelosi, and other Democrats.
John W. Lillpop is a recovering liberal.
