Are You Ready for Some Football?

By John W. Lillpop

Great news--NFL football is back!

Fans must get that refrigerator stocked with Budweiser—remember to boycott Miller!--and great food ready to dish out.

Under the management of retired commissioner Paul Taglibue, the NFL has engineered parity to a new level. All teams are now more or less equal, and on any given Sunday, team A can whip Team B and vice versa.

This sports version of affirmative action guarantees mediocrity, but at least it is consistent mediocrity. They call it leveling the “playing field” but in fact it is the NFL’s way of discouraging rampant gambling.

Until recently, scores of millions of dollars were waged every Sunday on who would win and who would lose, by how many points, performance against the “spread” established by professionals, and even game attendance.

Gambling became so pervasive that the game itself became an annoying distraction to many dedicated gamblers.

The NFL hopes that parity will make gambling more risky and less attractive.

In the end, affirmative action has ruined the quality of play in the NFL just as it has ruined American society in general.

Affirmative action is yet another example of liberalism run amok.

John W. Lillpop is a recovering liberal--with good hands!
